Packing and Furniture Preparation

  • Pull furniture away from walls and baseboards
  • Empty bookcases and desks of their contents and store items in a labelled box
  • Remove pictures and art from the walls so they can be inspected
  • Move aside sealed containers for better access
  • Lift mattresses and box springs, standing them up against the wall
  • Empty closets of remaining items and moving them to the centre of the room
  • Prepare items that can be laundered and set aside item for dry cleaning

Laundering

  • Prepare items that can be laundered for proper washing and thorough drying
  • Pack items that need dry cleaning and set them aside
  • Ensure that bags used to transport laundry are discarded outside the property and that new items are sealed in air-tight containers during the treatment process

Vacuuming

  • Vacuum floors, area rugs, and carpet
  • Vacuum all crevices, buttons, handles, and surface of mattresses
  • Vacuum baseboards, bed frame, sofas, futons, and other stuffed and upholstered furniture
  • Discard all used vacuum bags immediately off-site after each use

Furniture Disposal

  • Consult with owners about the value of their items and make decisions regarding what should be disposed of and what can be salvaged
  • Upon disposal, items will be damaged or marked so they are not used by anyone else
  • Mattresses will be slashed, and items will be made unusable and wrapped in plastic if removing them from the home
